posts of Senior Master a fixed salary of
which should be £1,000 per annum and which-
would be pensionable. I have therefore to
request that the petitioners may be informed
accordingly.

I have further to request that,
in respect of the other matters mentioned
in their memorial, the petitioners may be
informed that I have received and considered
their representations, but that I regret
that I am unable to agree that the conditions
of the petitioners' service in Hong Kong are
inferior to the level established in
comparable Colonial Service elsewhere, or
that in the matter of initial salary officers
of the Education Department are in any way at
a disadvantage in comparison with their
colleagues in the Public Service of Hong
Kong or those in the Colonial Education
Service who are appointed to other Dependencies.
